Can multiple photogrammetry projects be uploaded to a single asset?

You may have several buildings or other structures on a single site with each structure belonging to a separate project in your application (Reality Capture, Agisoft Metashape, 3DF Zephyr, etc).

It may be possible to upload additional structures to an existing asset by exporting them from your application using these steps, uploading the first structure's obj and texture files using these steps, then uploading the obj and texture files of each additional structure using these steps.

However, there are some caveats to this approach:

  • Some of our How do I export from... guides have both manual and integrated uploader instructions. Be sure to follow the manual instructions. The integrated uploaders in 3DF Zephyr, Reality Capture, or Agisoft Metashape must not be used when dealing with multiple structure projects in a single asset.
  • Be sure that no shift or offset is being applied to the coordinates of your exported data. For example, in Reality Capture, the Project output setting must be chosen instead of Shifted project output when following the export instructions. Other applications may have similar project and/or export settings -- be sure not to apply any shifting or offsetting when prompted.
  • If multiple camera files (i.e. BlocksExchange and/or .csv files) are uploaded into a single Nira asset, viewing of this camera data may not function properly. It is recommended to only upload the camera information for one of the projects to the asset. If you require camera related features for all photos across the site, it's probably necessary to merge them together in your application first and export a unified set of geometry files and a single unified camera data file, if possible.
  • Because each project uses separate pose estimation calculations, the alignment between the structures may not be perfect once you view them together in Nira. If perfect alignment between structures is a priority, it may be best to merge them together in your application first in order to deal with these alignment issues.
