How to export your DJI Terra and/or DJI Modify project for Nira

Nira is a very convenient tool to share and collaborate on your DJI Terra mission projects.  For the best results, please follow the steps outlined below. These steps should be performed before starting the Aerotriangulation or 2D/3D Reconstruction.

  1. Under Aerotriangulation > Advanced, enable the XML Output Format: Note: Even if you choose not to upload the XML, it's best to always enable the XML output.  It's a very small file.  Once reconstruction has finished, you cannot enable it without restarting the entire reconstruction process.
  2. Also under Aerotriangulation > Advanced, make sure "Known Coordinate System" is selected.
  3. In the Aerotriangulation > Advanced > Horizontal Datum Settings dropdown, choose a UTM zone closest to the captured area e.g. "WGS 84 / UTM zone ##". If you're not sure what the "##" portion should be, use the Nira UTM Zone Identification Tool. If you'd prefer to use a different coordinate system, please ensure it's Cartesian by following these instructions.
  4. If you'd like to create a 2D Map, in the 2D Map > Advanced section, ensure "Known Coordinate System" is selected and choose the same coordinate system as step 3.  Map Tiling should also be disabled (default).
  5. In the 3D Model > Advanced section, ensure "Known Coordinate System" is selected.
  6. In the 3D Model > Advanced > Horizontal Datum Settings dropdown, choose the same coordinate system that you used in step 3.
  7. Enable OBJ and you can optionally choose to set quality to 100% (default is 50%).  If you have DJI Modify, you can choose to enable "Output Editable in DJI Modify".  Remember to export the resulting OBJ files from DJI Modify into the same directory as the original OBJ files:

  8. Click "Start Reconstruction".
  9. Once the reconstruction is complete, navigate to you DJI Terra project folder and drag and drop the entire mission folder into your Nira dashboard: 3.png
  10. You can optionally include the original drone photos if you wish to use Nira for virtual inspection:5.png
  11. Choose an Asset name and then click the right arrow button to proceed:6.png
  12. Choose Photogrammetry as your asset type and click Start Upload.  Within a few minutes, your asset will be ready for viewing and inspection:7.png

Files that will be uploaded when you drag and drop your mission folder (you can disable :

  • 3D Model (multiple files):  *.obj + *.mtl + *.jpg
  • Aerotriangulation data: BlocksExchangeUndistortAT_WithoutTiePoints.xml
  • Photo list: image_list.json
  • Camera Distortion model: sfm_report.json
  • Georeference coordinate data: metadata.xml
  • Photos (multiple files): *.jpg
  • 3D Point Cloud (if enabled): cloud_merged.las
  • 2D Map (if enabled): result.tif
