Nira allows you to save view changes into a dropdown menu item called a View Variant. The View Variant can then be selected to apply those view changes at any time. In the example below, selecting the Chute Only View Variant highlights the chute of a Concrete Factory by hiding all other objects.
Plan Availability:
View Variants are only available with on a Professional plan, with an Enterprise plan, with Premium assets on a Business plan, or during a Trial.
Any view changes can be saved as a unique View Variant, providing powerful customization options. Here are a few examples of what you can achieve with View Variants:
- Object visibility -- hide or Unhide objects
- Material settings -- change colors, textures, or any other property
- View Options -- environment settings, culling, measurement units or settings and much more...
- Object transform -- reposition or rotate your objects into different orientations
To create a View Variant:
1. Log in as an Editor
2. Click the Edit Mode button, and make a change to your asset
3. Click the Save | Revert... button. The Save | Revert dialog will be displayed. Within the dialog, you can click Show Details to see a summary of your changes.
4. Choose the Save as new variant option and enter a name for it. This name will be used as the label for the dropdown menu item.
That's it! Anyone viewing your asset can select your View Variant to apply these changes. You can create as many View Variants for an asset as you like.
To manage your existing View Variants:
1. Log in as an Editor
2. Ensure you have created at least one View Variant for the asset. If you haven't done so yet, please follow the Creating a View Variant instructions provided above.
3. Open the Variants dropdown in the upper-left corner and select the last menu option, Manage View Variants...
The Manage View Variants dialog will be displayed:
The dialog has several functions:
- Rename: Click the edit button
next to the View Variant to rename it. The name you choose will appear in the View Variants dropdown for that item.
- Set Default: Click the star button
next to a View Variant to set it as the default. The default View Variant is applied automatically when an asset is opened.
- Change ordering: Drag the handle
button located to the left of the variant and drop it above or below another variant to reorder it.
- Show in menu: Click the eye button
next to the View Variant to toggle its visibility in the dropdown menu.
- Delete: Click the trash button
next to a View Variant to delete it. Once deleted, View Variants cannot be recovered.
The Base Settings
When selecting a View Variant from the dropdown menu, the Base settings are applied first, followed immediately by the changes (delta) from the chosen View Variant. To apply modifications across all View Variants, it's best to save them to the Base Settings. This approach avoids the need to individually update and save each View Variant to include those changes. Your View Variants will also be easier to use with other features that we have planned for the future.
